The digital media landscape is constantly changing. So, when it comes to preparing for a career in television, radio, traditional print or digital multimedia production, it is more important than ever to hone your craft across a wide variety of platforms.
The Digital Media Production program at Ashland University was created a decade ago in response to what the industry told us they wanted from graduates entering the workforce. This converged media program is designed to give you hands-on classroom, studio and lab experience starting on day one, allowing you to explore all areas of production in close collaboration with your fellow students, hone your craft through real-life application and learn to become a great storyteller, no matter which media platform you are working in.

Choosing the right program for you can seem daunting. And while there are a number of great digital media programs across the state, and across the country, our program is unique on a number of levels. With the program beginning just a decade ago, the Digital Media Production program at Ashland University blends television, radio and digital media with newspaper production in a way that allows students unprecedented access to work across media channels with others who share the same passion. Our focus is on training our students, first and foremost, to tell great stories—and do so within a tight community of collaborators. You will learn and grow under the personal attention of world class educators who are as passionate about your success as you are.
Digital Media Production Program
Our Digital Media Production program is designed to develop professionals with multiple skill sets and diverse abilities across a wide variety of media platforms. As soon as freshman year, students get hands-on production experience in state-of-the-art facilities, including our radio studio, television studio, and Mac lab. This means our students can learn all production stages across various media platforms to hone their craft and build their portfolio to present to employers after graduation. Become a radio host on our student-produced radio station 88.9 WDRL or practice as a news anchor or sports reporter on our student-run TV station AU-TV 20 to gain experience applicable in your post-graduation career. Our award-winning co-curricular convergent media education model allows our students to work as content producers, on-air talent, directors, editors and more so they gain experience at all levels of production and begin carving their niche through real-life, hands-on experience.

Graduates of our award-winning Digital Media Production program have gone on to be writers, directors, producers, and managers for a diverse list of media industry employers including ESPN, Disney, Fox, CNN, CBS, ABC, NBC, The Washington Post and more. Others have gone on to carve out successful niches in local news with Sinclair, Nexstar, and Gray Television. Some are currently moving up through the highly competitive ranks of radio broadcasting, hosting local and regional radio shows. Others are finding success in more entrepreneurial avenues, blending their production skills with distinctly unique passions to create entirely new approaches to media within an ever-evolving digital communication landscape.

Scholarship
Pursuing your passion takes diligence, focus and perseverance. Our Dean’s Scholarship is designed to reward your hard work and add even more value to your education.
For students majoring in eligible programs, the Dean’s Scholarship includes a merit-based, renewable scholarship of $1,500, which can be “stacked” on top of other merit awards received. Additionally, recipients can participate in unique academic communities to engage with faculty and prepare for their future career.
To qualify, you must have a 3.5 GPA from high school or previous college and maintain a 3.0 GPA throughout your studies at Ashland. Once you apply and are admitted to Ashland University, you’ll receive an invitation to apply for the Dean’s Scholarship if you qualify.
